Sumer Expands UK Presence with Acquisition of DPC Chartered Accountants
In a strategic move that marks its eleventh acquisition in the United Kingdom, the mid-market accountancy group Sumer has successfully acquired DPC Chartered Accountants, a firm with a rich history and a strong presence in Staffordshire. This acquisition is a testament to Sumer’s ambitious growth strategy and its commitment to enhancing its services across the UK.
DPC Chartered Accountants, established 80 years ago and operating from its Stoke-on-Trent office, is renowned for its balanced leadership with a 50% female partner ratio. The firm offers a comprehensive range of services including audit, accounts, corporate and personal tax advice, compliance counsel, payroll, and broader business services. This acquisition not only expands Sumer’s geographical footprint but also enriches its service portfolio with DPC’s expertise.
With this latest acquisition, Sumer now boasts more than 40 offices across the UK, housing over 1,300 colleagues. Since its launch in 2023, Sumer has experienced rapid growth, reporting revenues exceeding £100m just 12 months after its inaugural acquisition. This growth has been supported by significant investments from Penta Capital and BlackRock, underlining the financial community’s confidence in Sumer’s business model and growth trajectory.
Sumer’s strategy focuses on creating regional hubs throughout the UK, dedicated to serving the SME market. The inclusion of DPC strategically positions Sumer between its existing hubs, Cowgills and Jerroms, enhancing its coverage and strengthening its reach across the Midlands and North West.
Warren Mead, CEO of Sumer, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting DPC’s dominant position in the Staffordshire accounting sector and the potential for economic growth in the area. "Sumer wants to join forces with people who share our commitment to growth, go the extra mile for clients, and care about their employees. With DPC’s impressive team, established roots, and solid reputation, combined with our reach and scale, we can help local businesses prosper,” Mead stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Michelle Coates, Director at DPC Accountants, emphasized the alignment of values between the two firms, particularly in championing diversity and supporting SMEs. "Our firm has continually delivered a robust value proposition for both clients and our team. Sumer embodies ethics that closely mirror our own… This synergy makes them an ideal partner for us, as we continue to excel and advocate for Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas,” Coates remarked.
This acquisition is a significant milestone for Sumer as it continues to expand its presence and reinforce its commitment to supporting the growth and prosperity of SMEs across the United Kingdom.
