Former Ohio University Student Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Embezzlement

ATHENS, OH—Matthew Jeffrey Streeter, a former Ohio University student, has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of Aggravated Theft and Telecommunications Fraud. The sentencing took place in Athens County under Judge Patrick J. Lang on July 17, 2024.

Streeter, who served as the volunteer treasurer for the Delta Upsilon Alumni House Corporation, was found guilty of misappropriating funds from the organization. Over his tenure, he executed 182 unauthorized transactions, diverting a total of $179,863.95 for personal use.

The case was prosecuted by the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Forensic Accounting Unit. The state argued for the maximum sentence of 72 months, while Streeter requested community control. Ultimately, Judge Lang decided on a prison term and ordered Streeter to repay the embezzled funds.

This sentencing marks a significant closure for the affected organization and its members, bringing justice to those impacted by Streeter’s actions.
