In Memory of John E. Barraclough, Jr.: A Legacy of Love, Laughter, and Professional Excellence

Santa Fe Community Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Accountant and Philanthropist, John E. Barraclough, Jr.

Santa Fe, NM – The city of Santa Fe is mourning the loss of one of its most respected and beloved citizens, John Edward Barraclough, Jr., who passed away at the age of 79 on June 29, 2024, after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. Known for his brilliant mind, generous heart, and infectious laughter, John’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he served so diligently.

Born on August 13, 1944, in Venice, Florida, to John Barraclough and Ida Jadels, John’s journey led him to New Mexico, where he became a pillar of the Santa Fe community. A graduate of Bernalillo High School and New Mexico State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1966, John’s career was marked by excellence and a deep commitment to his clients and colleagues.

In 1985, John founded Barraclough & Associates P.C., a firm that quickly became synonymous with integrity, quality, and community service. Under his leadership, the firm not only provided expert accounting services but also became a beacon of philanthropy in northern New Mexico. John’s belief in giving back to the community was evident in his generous support of nonprofit organizations, including serving as Treasurer for the Foundation for Santa Maria El Mirador and on the advisory Board of Directors for Allan Houser, Inc.

John’s professional accolades include memberships in the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, The National Association of Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a distinguished Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Accounting. Throughout his nearly fifty-year career, John’s advice and expertise benefited financial institutions, nonprofit entities, state agencies, and more, leaving an indelible mark on the financial landscape of New Mexico.

Beyond his professional achievements, John was a family man at heart. He and his first wife, Nancy Novelle White, adopted five children, creating a loving and vibrant family. Despite the loss of his daughter Johnyce and his wives Nancy and Deborah, John’s spirit of resilience and love continued to shine through his surviving children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

John’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will be celebrated at a service held at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM, on August 31 at 11 AM. In honor of John’s lifelong commitment to community service, the family requests that donations be made to Santa Maria El Mirador, an organization close to John’s heart.

John E. Barraclough, Jr.’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, dedication, and laughter. As the Santa Fe community remembers him, his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire and influence for generations to come.
