Jim Greenwell Retires from Kent-Sussex Industries After Distinguished Career

Jim Greenwell, the Vice President of Finance and Technology at Kent-Sussex Industries (KSI), is set to retire at the end of July, marking the end of an impressive career spanning over three decades in corporate financial management. Greenwell, who retired from DuPont in 2008 before embarking on a 14-year journey with KSI, has been a pivotal figure in the organization’s financial and operational success.

A Journey of Challenges and Accomplishments

Greenwell’s career is a testament to his dedication and skill in the field of financial management. With a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, he began his career at DuPont as an internal auditor, eventually moving into roles that spanned accounting, finance, operations, human resources, and project management. His tenure at DuPont saw him managing cost analysis, accounting, inventory management, and financial controls across various locations.

From DuPont to Delaware Tech and KSI

After retiring from DuPont, Greenwell served as Business Manager at Delaware Technical and Community College Terry Campus in Dover. His journey with KSI began in 2010 when he responded to an online advertisement for a comptroller position. His previous experience with a KSI work crew at the Seaford plant and his relationships with KSI board members were instrumental in his decision to join the organization.

Legacy of Leadership and Mentorship

Greenwell’s leadership style, characterized by trust and accessibility, has left a lasting impact on his colleagues. Crystal Hughes, reflecting on Greenwell’s tenure, praised his approach to management and his supportive nature. Under his guidance, KSI was able to expand its programming and navigate through challenging times, earning him accolades from Heath Chasanov, CEO of KSI.

Retirement and Beyond

Looking ahead, Greenwell plans to marry his fiancé, Linda Tuttle, and explore the world of forensic accounting, a testament to his never-ending quest for knowledge and growth.

Dr. Mark Dufendach Steps In

Succeeding Greenwell as Vice President of Finance is Dr. Mark Dufendach, a seasoned financial expert with extensive experience in the education sector. Dufendach’s background in managing state and federal funds and his leadership roles in various school districts position him as an ideal successor to carry forward the legacy of financial excellence at KSI.

A New Chapter for KSI

As KSI bids farewell to Jim Greenwell and welcomes Dr. Mark Dufendach, the organization looks forward to a future of continued growth and success under new leadership. Greenwell’s contributions will be remembered as KSI embarks on this new chapter.

Veteran Finance Executive Jim Greenwell to Retire, Mark Dufendach Steps in at KSI

In a significant transition for Kent-Sussex Industries (KSI), Jim Greenwell, the esteemed Vice President of Finance and Technology, is set to retire at the end of July, marking the end of an illustrious career spanning over three decades in corporate financial management. Greenwell, who retired from DuPont in 2008 before embarking on a transformative 14-year journey with KSI, leaves behind a legacy of resilience and innovation.

Greenwell’s career is a testament to his adaptability and expertise, having navigated the complex landscapes of accounting, finance, operations, and human resources with remarkable dexterity. His tenure at DuPont, where he began as an internal auditor in Wilmington before moving to the Seaford plant in 1985, laid the groundwork for his multifaceted approach to financial management. It was his encounter with a KSI work crew at Seaford, reclaiming nylon for reuse, that left a lasting impression, eventually leading him to join the nonprofit organization in 2010.

Reflecting on his journey, Greenwell shared, "This began a journey of challenges and accomplishments." His tenure at KSI was marked by the application of effective financial administration methods honed during his time at DuPont, significantly enhancing the nonprofit’s operations.

The community eagerly anticipates the new directions KSI will explore under Dufendach’s leadership, building on the solid foundation laid by Greenwell.
