From Kitchen to the Corridors of Power: The Resilient Journey of Paritala Sunitha

In the heart of Raptadu, a tale of resilience, political ascendancy, and a woman’s indomitable spirit unfolds, marking the life of Paritala Sunitha. Once confined to the kitchen, extending hospitality to her husband’s followers, Sunitha’s journey from the domestic sphere to the political arena is nothing short of remarkable. Her husband, Paritala Ravindra, a victim of the brutal factional feuds that have scarred Andhra Pradesh, left behind a legacy that Sunitha would carry forward with unparalleled determination.

Paritala Ravindra’s life was steeped in violence from an early age, with the loss of his father, Paritala Sriramulu, and brother when he was merely 17. Fleeing for his life, Ravindra found solace and a partner in Sunitha, marrying her and eventually joining the CPI (ML) in a quest for justice. The couple’s life in Venkatapuram was marked by turbulence, culminating in Ravindra’s assassination in 2005, leaving Sunitha and their three children to navigate the aftermath.

Despite the personal tragedies, Sunitha’s political career, much like a phoenix rising from the ashes, began to take shape. Elected as the MLA from Penukonda on a TDP ticket in 2009 and again in 2014, where she also served as a minister in Naidu’s Cabinet, Sunitha’s resolve only strengthened. In a move to usher her son, Paritala Sriram, into politics, she stepped aside in the 2019 elections, though the seat eluded him.

The 2024 elections saw Sunitha making a formidable comeback, contesting from Raptadu, while her son took charge of the Dharmavaram constituency, albeit missing out on a ticket due to alliance dynamics. This setback, however, did little to dampen the spirit of the Paritala family, with Sunitha’s victory underscoring her resilience and the unwavering support of her followers.

Sunitha’s journey is a testament to her strength in the face of adversity. Emerging as a tough, no-nonsense leader, she has navigated the treacherous waters of factional politics with grace, ensuring that the legacy of her husband and the aspirations of her followers are upheld. Her leadership style, marked by a refusal to succumb to the factionalism that claimed her husband’s life, has earned her the respect and admiration of many.

As she turns 60, Sunitha looks towards the future, hopeful for her son’s successful entry into electoral politics and determined to continue serving the people of her constituency. A staunch Chandrababu Naidu loyalist, her journey from the kitchen to the corridors of power is a powerful narrative of female empowerment and political resilience in the face of personal tragedy.

The story of Paritala Sunitha is not just about political survival but a beacon of hope and inspiration, proving that with determination and support, it is possible to overcome the darkest of times and emerge stronger.
