John E. Barraclough Jr.: A Legacy of Love, Laughter, and Dedication

Santa Fe Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Accountant and Community Pillar, John E. Barraclough Jr.

Santa Fe, NM – The community of Santa Fe is in mourning following the passing of John E. Barraclough Jr., a revered local accountant and philanthropist, who died on June 29, 2024, at the age of 79. Barraclough’s battle with Parkinson’s disease came to a peaceful end, leaving behind a city grateful for his immense contributions and a family proud of the legacy he leaves.

Born on August 13, 1944, in Venice, Florida, John E. Barraclough Jr. was a man whose life was marked by achievement, generosity, and a profound commitment to his community. After graduating from Bernalillo High School and earning his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from New Mexico State University in 1966, Barraclough embarked on a career that would not only define his professional life but also enrich the lives of countless others in Santa Fe and beyond.

In 1985, he founded Barraclough & Associates P.C., a firm that under his leadership until January 2020, when it merged with Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, LLC, became synonymous with integrity, excellence, and community service. Barraclough’s professional affiliations were extensive, including memberships in the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he was recognized as a Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Accounting.

However, it was John’s unwavering dedication to giving back that truly set him apart. As Treasurer of the Foundation for Santa Maria El Mirador and a member of the advisory Board of Directors of Allan Houser, Inc., he leveraged his expertise and resources to support vital causes. His firm’s policy of donating to every nonprofit client exemplified his belief in community support, encouraging his team to engage in philanthropic efforts, including sponsoring events like pancakes on the plaza with the Rotary Club of Santa Fe and the Sweetheart Auction for the Cancer Foundation.

John’s personal life was as rich and fulfilling as his professional one. He married Nancy Novelle White in 1966, with whom he adopted five children, creating a loving and vibrant family. Despite the loss of his daughter Johnyce, first wife Nancy, and second wife Deborah, John’s spirit of resilience and love remained undimmed, reflected in the lives of his surviving children and grandchildren, who were his utmost pride and joy.

The Santa Fe community will have the opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate John’s life at services scheduled for August 31 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Santa Maria El Mirador, a testament to John’s lifelong commitment to supporting those in need.

John E. Barraclough Jr.’s passing marks the end of an era for Santa Fe, but his legacy of kindness, dedication, and community service will continue to inspire generations to come.
